Playas del Coco (Ocotal)

Playas del Coco is Guanacaste’s original beach and party town and one of the fastest growing tourism and residential communities in the province. It is located only 17 miles (27 km), or 35 minutes from Liberia’s international airport and about 4.5 hours from San Jose. It’s a popular weekend and holiday getaway among Costa Ricans and foreigners alike.

While Playas del Coco beach may not be the prettiest, it does have a couple of near-shore islands with rock reefs good for snorkeling and kayaking. Sportfishing charters leave the pier daily as well as from the nearby Flamingo Marina.

Playas del Coco is also a good home base if you want to beach hop along the coast. Its closest neighbor, Playa Ocotal, for example, is a small and tranquil fishing village with a protected beach and good snorkeling
