Tambor
Playa Tambor is a large, protected bay, known as Bahia Ballena (whale bay), on the southern edge of the Nicoya Peninsula. Its calm, clear waters make it a popular destination for families with children and weekend picnics. At the south end of the bay is a small fishing village and dock. Some ocean tours, including sportfishing, scuba diving, snorkeling, and sightseeing, depart from the dock despite its relatively dilapidated condition.
Tambor’s all-inclusive resorts
Further along the bay are three sprawling vacation and residence resorts. Barcelo Tambor Resort is extremely popular among Costa Ricans and features multiple restaurants, a casino, live shows, and a conference center. Then there’s Los Delfines Golf and Country Club with a scenic 9-hole golf course and the Tango Mar Beachfront Boutique Hotel & Villas.
There’s also a handful of restaurants and smaller hotels and lodges in the small, laid-back town of Tambor.
